Response to Chapter 11

Audio:
A traditional technology would be a tape recorder. One very common way to use a tape recorder in the classroom is the record lectures. This is very useful when one must short hand their notes, so you can always look back to what was said. I also think it would be useful when learning a foreign language. Students could record the teacher saying words correctly, and then practice them outside of class.

An emerging technology would be an MP3 player. I have used an MP3 player in class much like I suggested using a tape recorder. One of my biology professors would post his lectures online, so I would study by downloading his lectures to my MP3 and then listen to them on repeat. Hearing the lectures over and over again helped me learn the more difficult information on my MP3 player, without disturbing others at school.

Visual:
A traditional technology would be a projector. I feel projectors are most useful in math classes. Math teachers can project the work step by step work for a math problem for the whole class to easily see. A projector also allows the teacher to keep eye contact with their students, making it easy to ask and answer questions.

An emerging technology would be the use of DVD's or DVD recorders in a classroom. A teacher can use a DVD recorder in a classroom by video recording a students presentation or speech. This is convenient for the teacher in a way that they can easily look back to a students presentation for grading. I feel it would also be beneficial for a student in a speech class. If their speeches were recorded so they could not only hear themselves but see themselves, they could easily correct their mistakes.

Response to Chapter 6

Based on the information provided in chapter 6, one can see that there are many technological tools available to use in the classroom. In my opinion I would rather work in a classroom that had more technology than less. Although having more technology in a classroom may lead to more chances for technological difficulties, I feel the benefits outweigh this risk. I also feel that the use of technology in a classroom increases students interest in learning and will benefit them in their future. On page 154, chapter 6 goes into detail how electronic white boards also enable a teacher to act interactively with their classroom, which I feel is very important as well. As educators we must prepare our students for their futures. As technology advances throughout the world, I feel it is very important that we use it more abundantly in classrooms in order to not only prepare our students for these advances, but to make preparing them easier on us as educators.
